Editorial Review for Redhook Ale Brewery – by Paul Fontana

The Scene
A sleek neo-Northwest structure nestled in a wooded valley, Redhook's Woodinville headquarters could pass for an upscale ski lodge, especially when the fireplace is roaring. The souvenir shop conspicuously perched near the entrance, however, makes it clear that you've entered the showcase for the region's largest microbrewer. Eastside professionals comprise most of the clientele, though their children and parents are also present.

The Draw
A true vanguard in the American microbrewery movement, Redhook may have lost some cachet locally when it abandoned Seattle for the suburbs (its Trolleyman Pub in Fremont closed in late 2002). However slick, the Woodinville digs are comfortable, and in summer, the spacious patio offers one of the most enticing outdoor settings in the area. It continues to brew high-quality beer; exclusive cask-conditioned and nitro versions are a strong lure. A menu of mostly standard pub fare consistently satisfies. Service is friendly, if slightly haphazard.

I went to this restaurant with my family and they go there quite a bit. We were seated right away with a group of 6 at 6:30 or so, which is a rarity these days. Service was great and our drinks were always refilled right on cue. There was music playing but it wasn't overpowering and the dining room is spread out enough that you don't have to worry about hitting anyone's chair or overhearing conversations. I had the french dip sandwich, which was tasty BUT my sister had the half-size forecaster nachos. Let me tell you, the half-size is enough nachos for at least three or four people and they are beyond tasty. I am thinking about going back just for those alone!

Pros: Easily accessible, parking, NACHOS

I have been to RedHook so many times, I have almost the whole collection of sample glass colors. Why do I keep coming back? The staff at the brewery all love what they do and it is contagious. Even if you are not a fan of the brew you will leave with a greater appreciation for the process and care that they put into what they create at RedHook. Above all, I highly recommend taking the tour. If you have time during the off hours (ie. middle of the day during the week) take the tour then because it is so much more fun with a smaller group. Afterwards, please take some time to stop for their giant nachos piled high with toppings (you'll need a friend or two to help if you get a full order) and be sure to finish the experience off with a porter float (AKA Bryan's Black Bovine).
