Editorial Review for W Seattle – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
W Seattle starts setting the scene right out front, where a black placard labeled "Wheels" directs guests to valet parking. The lobby is retro art moderne: lots of frosted glass, brushed stainless steel, black- and plum-stained wood and an insistent alt-rock music score. This isn't your grandmother's hotel--the clientele tends toward the young, trendy and fabulous, and the hotel's atmosphere matches.
The Details
Rooms are sleek, comfortable and practical continuations of the modern theme with black and white Seattle photos decorating the walls. One inspired feature is a window-seat settee bathed in natural light; a fun treat is the minibar's candy box, stocked with lollipops and candy cigarettes. Sinfully comfortable beds have pillow-top mattresses and goose-down comforters. Along with DirecTV, guests can browse the hotel's DVD library for films from "La Dolce Vita" to "Mary Poppins," or peruse the CD library for alternative favorites like Beck and Nirvana.

I'm a frequent visitor to Seattle and have stayed at the W numerous times. The last few visits have been so terrible I stay anywhere else, even though I'm a member of their points program. First off, the hotel is in dire need of updating. It's only fashionable and chic if you're living in 1995. The hotel really shouldn't advertise itself as being boutique or cutting edge - it's really just a place for people to party and trash the place. On a recent visit we had to call security because rooms on both sides of me had parties going on at 3am. Security gave them numerous warnings, but did nothing because they had rented a conference room all week. Really? When I tried to get some recommendations for dinner, the snooty concierge with the tight pants told me everything was booked and it would be nearly impossible to get a reservation downtown. I suppose browsing ebay is more important than making a few quick phone calls for a guest. If you're looking for a real hotel that cares about guest experience, try any of these: Hotel Max, Hotel Andra, Hotel 1000, the Fairmont Olympic or the Arctic Club. Just avoid the W in Seattle at all costs.
Pros: Cheap rates through expedia, good music in the lounge
Cons: Nickel & dimed on everything, poor customer service, party central

I stayed at the W for a business convention (zzzzzzzzzz). From the minute our cab dropped us off, it was show time. The entire staff are well trained and in the business of catering to people. I know this because I DO customer service for a living. I had a suit tailored at Nordstrom while there, my personal shopper dropped it off and the CONCIERGE actually took it to my room, unwrapped it, and hung it in the closet. No one had to "look" for it when I asked. They all knew where it was. I'm salivating just thinking about that! The ambience is amazing, my room was amazing, LOVE BLISS LABS being from NYC. This place is dialed in. The bar hops every night. It's efficient yet fun for business. Met some girls from Portland escaping their doldrum lives who were having an awesome time. And if I actually had a man in my life, it would be a great place for romance.
