Editorial Review for Alexis Hotel – by Eric Lucas
The Scene
The Alexis is much more than outward appearances suggest. Occupying most of its block on First Avenue, its only street-front manifestations are two compact lobbies on First Avenue and Madison Street. Step inside and you enter a friendly, low-key world reminiscent of small-to-medium European hotels, with cheery colors and stucco walls. The Sultan of Brunei wanted to book the entire hotel for APEC in 1993; other visitors had reserved rooms, so the sultan offered to buy the whole property. Eventually, the other guests were housed elsewhere. The hotel's ownership didn't change, but the sultan did redecorate all the rooms.
The Details
Rooms are large, discreetly furnished and very quiet. The service is exceptionally accommodating. The Chihuly vases along the walkway to the elevators are the genuine items, from the days before he became as well known as his artwork.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe view you want is of the inner courtyard or one of the internal European-style light shafts. Don't take a First Avenue side room; noise can penetrate even these sturdy walls.
The ExtrasIn addition to a complimentary bed, your pet can dine on room service from a doggie menu.
Look GoodEnjoy breakfast or lunch from the onsite Library Bistro.

I stayed at the Alexis in January for a romantic weekend with my very hot boyfriend. They didn't have our room ready, so they bought us drinks in the Library Bar until they did! The bartender was great that day and the cocktails led to ........The second day, he (the bartender, silly) was L*O*A*D*E*D beyond belief but was still functional. Such is the charm of Seattle. The room was impeccable. The view was georgeous. I loved the art...you'd have to be a narrow-minded bigot not to. The staff were so great. The bed was, well, worth the trip. Go. Enjoy.
Pros: Pet-friendly, parking, ambience, comfort
Cons: Rain

Spent 9 nights at Alexis and had the greatest service I have ever had. Staff is amazing in the response time to a request, great with tips on where the locals eat, shop and what to do in the city. Hotel caters to any whim you may have and was available for you 24/7. Would not even consider staying anywhere but here when traveling to Seattle. Nice size rooms. clean was an understatement and the staff is best in any class.
Pros: Location to market, cleanlienss, service
Cons: Homeless in area
