Editorial Review for 5th Avenue Theater Tour – by Litsa Dremousis
The Background
The 5th Avenue's Becky Dobbins conducts intimate group tours of this historic Seattle venue. Built in 1926 for film and vaudeville, it's modeled in part after China's legendary Imperial Palace, and features a spectacularly ornate dome. When you view the headdress-inspired chandeliers and elaborate plaster moldings, you won't believe the entire structure was built in only 11 months. The 5th Avenue currently produces its own shows and hosts touring Broadway musicals.
Facts
The tour is offered during weekday business hours, by appointment only. Call ahead, ditch work, and surround yourself with architectural splendor. Give yourself a midday break that's free, legal, and truly enchanting. Dobbins is an excellent guide and welcomes questions. However, you're not allowed backstage; the stage crew doesn't hang out at your desk, do they?
