AN EVENING WITH KATHLEEN EDWARDS AND JOHN DOE Editorial Review
In Short
Kathleen Edwards' Chevy four-wheel-drive was her touring vehicle of choice early on and it graced the cover of her gorgeously shook-down debut, "Failer." But while her vividly recorded and cleanly produced songs aren't all downers and break-up tunes, the best ones possess an addictive melancholy amid the hooks. Edwards' music is warmly rootsy, but in a contemporary way. And so Edwards inhabits today's more stylish Americana scene like a graceful heiress. Not unlike Paul Westerberg or Ryan Adams, she avoids melodrama in favor of creating a poignant and uneasy scene.
