Editorial Review for Quad Cinema – by Citysearch Staff
The Scene
A four-screen multiplex art house nestled off the main thoroughfares, the renovated Quad is only marginally more inviting than it was before. Some silver paint has lightened up the previous chocolate brown '70s vibe--although the Bergman and Fellini posters remain, keeping the decade's spirit alive. What hasn't changed is the Quad's very small screening rooms and even smaller screens. It's like watching projection TV, but you won't get the chance to see many of these films in public anywhere else.
The Draw
The Quad does program independent and foreign films that already have had a healthy run elsewhere, but its vital role is as showroom for films which run the festival circuit worldwide and somehow never find a big-name specialty distributor. Furthermore, this movie theater may be the the only one in town where gay programming is pretty much guaranteed.
