$5 Fill-Up: Cheap Eats Near Public Transit $5 Fill-Up: Cheap Eats Near Public Transit RSS

By Whitney Ricketts, Seattle Editor

With whole paychecks going to gas these days, here are some spots to get great grub without handing over more than a Lincoln.
On This Page: Five-Dollar Feasts

Five-Dollar Feasts

  1. Metropolitan Grill

    820 Second Ave, Seattle, WA
From 3pm-6pm every weekday, the Met's happy hour serves up $5 chicken wings, an all-the-works burger or bacon-wrapped tenderloin. Hob nob with the suits while you feast on the cheap. Get to the Met on any bus that will take you downtown: located right near all major bus lines and University Street Station.

  2. Cafe Presse

    1117 12th Ave, Seattle, WA
From 7am-1am all day every day, you can get a $4 salad or a $5 sandwich at this popular Capitol Hill French bistro. If you're on a liquid diet, glasses of wine clock in at just under four bucks. Metro lines nearby: 2, 3, 12.

  3. Dick's Drive-In

111 NE 45th St, Seattle, WA
Dick's hits the spot every time--get three Specials for under $5, or splurge and spend $2.70 on a Deluxe. You can't eat at Dick's without a helping of those soggy fries--love 'em or hate 'em, they're essential to the Dicks experience. And if your sweet tooth is calling the shots, you've got lots of options: milkshakes, ice cream cones, and the classic root beer shake. Ride the 43, 44, or 36 to fast food heaven.

  4. Tacos El Asadero

3517 Rainier Ave S, Seattle, WA
Housed in an old school bus, this taco truck dishes out some of the city's cheapest Mexican food. Try the hefty burritos, the carne asada tacos, or the perfectly greasy carnitas--and finish it all off with a Jarrito. Take the 42 or the 7 from Downtown.

  5. Saigon Deli

1237 S Jackson St Ste E, Seattle, WA
Banh mi is the cheapest meal in town, and the bounty is found in the ID: At Saigon Deli, one of these Vietnamese sandwiches will set you back only $2.50, so why not get two? Ride the 12 up Jackson into the center of the banh mi universe.

  6. The Wild Rose

1021 E Pike St, Seattle, WA
Tuesdays mean $1 tacos at this Capitol Hill lesbian bar, where everyone is welcome to partake in the bargain grub. Sundays also mean free pool--a perfect side note to the chaos that takes over the rest of the Hill on weekends. The Rose is close to the 43, 44, 10, 3, 2, and 12 bus lines.
